Hello and welcome to the Spring term!
Last week we carried out lateral flow testing for all year groups and welcomed all students back in to school on the Friday. It was fantastic to see so many students and their parents volunteer for the lateral flow tests and students returning to school wearing their face coverings.
These actions show how respectful our students are for the safety of others. Respect is one of our Apollo Character Values alongside empathy; independence; kindness; listening and perseverance and we will be looking at these Character Values in more detail with students as we progress though this term.
This week, Mr. Gamble has spoken to certain year groups about kindness as part of their assembly, looking at the life of Archbishop Desmond Tutu who sadly died during the Christmas break. We have been explaining the importance of kindness and how this not only includes being kind in school, but also outside of school and when online.
This week has been a busy week for our Year 10 students who have been sitting their Mid-Year Assessments. These have been carried out under exam conditions and once again we have been impressed with the maturity our students have shown to these assessments.
Year 11 students will have received their report following their mock exams, and our staff are looking forward to talking with parents at our Year 11 Parents Evening on Thursday 20th January.
This week careers meetings started for Year 11 students. All students in Year 11 will be invited to meet Miss Greenall our Independent Careers Advisor over the coming months and discuss the different options available to them following Year 11.
We will be holding our second ‘Support Your Child Through Key Stage 4’ evening later in the term, this will be open to all parents of Year 10 and 11 students and we will be sending further information out about this event next week.
Our Year 9 students have started to look at their Key Stage 4 options, and the options form is now live on our school website. The deadline to complete the form is January the 28th and we will be holding a special assembly to talk to Year 9 again next week.
We look forward to a positive and productive term.
