News from the Apollo Partnership Trust

18th May 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

As you are aware, at the beginning of November 2017, Broom Leys Primary School, Castle Rock High School, and Newbridge High School formed a Multi Academy Trust – ‘Apollo Partnership Trust’. This academy partnership has enabled us to work together formally with a focus on progress and outcomes for the young people within our school communities.

In April, Broom Leys Primary School underwent a highly successful OFSTED inspection, in which the trust was praised for its collaborative work.

The trustees also recently appointed two interim Heads of School, Mr Michael Gamble, as Head of School at Castle Rock who commenced this position at the beginning of this summer term, and
Mrs Katrina Farragher as Head of School at Newbridge who will take up the post in August, after the retirement of the current Head Teacher – Mr Stewart Goacher.

In my role as Chief Executive Officer of Apollo and Executive Head Teacher of the two schools, I will be supporting the Heads of School as they lead their respective schools forward in an emerging and exciting new educational landscape.

The Apollo Partnership Trust have been working closely over the past few months with Ms Jenny Byrne, Principal of King Edward VII College, along with staff and governors of the College. We are thrilled that King Edward VII College have expressed a wish to join the Apollo Partnership trust pending consultation and Department of Education approval. Thereby enabling us to work together formally and with accountability to the Apollo Partnership which will span ages 4 to 19.

Our vision, is to enable a whole town approach to ensure the best possible outcomes for the young people of Coalville and its surrounding villages, as they progress through their education. We recognise that in order to achieve this, we need to embed a clear, coherent, first class educational experience. This will enable all of our young people to achieve the success that they not only deserve, but encompassed with their own rigour and determination, is their right. Together, we wish to review our current two tier secondary system, with the intention of forming two secondary schools in Coalville, taught by the same staff, under one employer – Apollo. In reality, this will mean that an 11-16 school will exist on the current Newbridge campus and an 11-19 school on the current King Edward VII and Castle Rock High School campus. The Sixth Form will be shared across the two schools.

We are in the early planning stages of this exciting development and a full consultation will be undertaken in the autumn term 2018, where we will seek the views of all our community stakeholders. Our plan is to turn this vision into reality by September 2020. This will be a gradual change as there are a number of stages within this process, and we will keep all stakeholders fully informed of our developments. We have updated the Apollo Partnership Trust website with frequently asked questions and will of course, ensure that communication is paramount.

We are all totally committed to this vision and firmly believe that this is an opportunity to work together within our Multi Academy Trust to ensure the best educational outcomes, care, guidance and support, in order to equip our young people with the foundations to be the best they can be.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Julia Patrick
