Chelsea’s Choice

On the afternoon of 1 November we are showing a performance of Chelsea’s Choice in school for all Year 9 students. This play, performed by the Alter Ego Theatre Company, deals with the subject of child sexual exploitation. It will be followed up by discussion both with the performers and with your child’s tutor of the issues involved. Below is the information that we have received about the play and to inform you that there is a free showing for parents on the same evening in Leicester. If you would like to attend, please follow the link to access free tickets.

AlterEgo’s Chelsea’s Choice is currently being shown in secondary schools across Leicester city, Leicestershire and Rutland.

To coincide with this and to ensure parents can support efforts to protect their children, a free performance of the 50-minute play is being offered to parents and carers at the Sue Townsend Theatre in Upper Brown Street, Leicester, on Monday, 30 October at 7.30pm.

‘Chelsea’s Choice’ is an internationally renowned,  hard-hitting Applied Theatre Production that has proven highly successful in raising awareness around the issues surrounding Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE).  The play, which has now been seen by hundreds of professionals and over 800,000 young people throughout the UK,  is followed by an actor facilitated post-show talk exploring the issues raised.

It tells the story of a group of three students who discover the diary of a girl called Chelsea.  Chelsea was a 15 year old girl who, having fallen out with her friends and family, met a guy called Gary.  Gary was kind, understanding, had a nice car, had his own flat and listened to her.  Unfortunately Gary was not what he seemed to be!  Chelsea’s story is played out and examined by the three students who, along with their teacher,  attempt to understand what happened to Chelsea and how it could have been prevented.

A trailer for the production can be viewed below:
